2014 Goals – My Just Do It List

This year I’m calling it Just Do It list, inspired by my cousin brother, last year I learnt two valuable lessons from my goals and its pursuit that –

  1. I can achieve anything (mostly), if I make up my mind (Set goal), plan for it (how to achieve it), Start taking action to achieve it, Keep taking actions till I achieve it (Consistent effort).
  2. Never set goals which won’t contribute to your long term goals, it would be great if you can set goals which will help you to achieve your long term goals or else it’ll only waste your time and effort.

Keeping these two learning in my mind I’m setting goals based on 4 aspects of my life and will divide them based on 4 quarters –

Inch by Inch

lifting weights - inch by inch

Today at Gym, I did one small experiment to know at what point I give up and what will happen if I persist and won’t give up. Generally I lift light weights I never lift heavy weights but today I put weights which were like double than my usual daily lifts and I kept increasing levels by adding more weights with each sets, After 1-2-3 sets I started feeling heat and pain, when I reached 3rd set I felt extreme pain, my mind started telling me that this is it, this is my limit, I can’t go further. I felt this is the point where I need to give up, but then I keep pumping with one thought that “just one more time, one more time, one last time” and actually I completed my 4th set and then 5th set. Each second my mind was telling me to give up but I replied just one last time I found that no matter what our mind tells if we keep moving forward lift by lift or Inch by Inch, one lift at a time, one inch at a time, we are capable of lifting more than we ever imagines, we are capable of doing much more than we generally believe we can.

Only thing we need to do is decide where we want to reach and keep moving forward no matter what our past experience and belief system tells us about our limitations or what is possible for us or what is impossible for us, If we keep moving forward we may find our new better self.

Extraordinary Purpose helps to Release Extraordinary Self

(On 29 May 1953 Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay became the first men to summit Mount Everest.)

“When you are inspired by some great purpose, some extraordinary project, all of your thoughts break through bonds. Your mind transcends limitations, your consciousness expands in every direction and you find yourself in a new great and wonderful world. Dormant forces, faculties and talents become alive and you discover yourself to be a greater person by far than yourself ever dreamed yourself to be.” ~ Bob Proctor (The Secret [2006 film])

Keep your goals to yourself, If you wanna achieve them!

Personal development Gurus suggests that you should keep your mouth wide open and tell your goals to the whole world around you so that if you default they’ll hold you for an explanation and you’ll get motivated enough to achieve them.

and I used to follow the same suggestion with my all goals settings and announce them to my friends and all (off FB and on FB).

Today I got shock when I watched appended video of Derek Sivers who suggests that “After hitting on a brilliant new life plan, our first instinct is to tell someone, but it’s better to keep goals secret.” He presented at TED about research stretching as far back as the 1920s to show why people who talk about their ambitions may be less likely to achieve them.

This is an eye opening for me and now I’m getting why I always fail to achieve max of my goals :P hehehehehe.
