The ‘NO’ Bacteria!

My Toastmasters Project 3 Speech : ‘The No Bacteria’ (My Story of how I got into Comfort Zone and How I Get out… technically It doesn’t speak much about Getting Out of ‘Comfort Zone’ as speech was getting too long for 7 minutes time limit but still there are lots of take aways ;-) )

“Nobody ever died of discomfort, yet living in the name of comfort has killed more ideas, more opportunities, more actions, and more growth than everything else combined. Comfort kills!”

How many of you like to live routine life, waking up at  5 AM, Jogging, Yoga, Pranayama, Kryia, Meditation, Getting ready for office, office hours, coming home, watch Supernatural show, Dinner, Reading books and Sleep (That’s my Usual routine). Doing same thing again and again?

Well, I simply hate to follow same routine, I hate monotonous life, I hate to eat same thing again and again except Maggie masala which is lifeline of every single breathing bachelor in India, In short I hate doing same thing again and again. That is why I keep changing my routine, keep doing new things, keep challenging myself, When I get bored with my food, when my taste buds stops responding to whatever I eat then I go for fasting 24×3 days which helps me to regain my taste senses and enjoy my food again.

Three months  ago I decided to stop doing everything I was doing at that time like going bed early and waking up early, Exercising, Reading books, Yoga, Meditation, Jogging, No Junk food, Fasting, I almost stopped everything that was good for my mind  and body. I started going bed late, till two weeks ago I used to go bed at 3AM I turned into insomniac, wake up at 9.00 AM, go to office at 10.30 AM, I stopped all kind of physical activity. In sort I started living my life as it comes, no effort from myself, complete leisure.

Initially I planned to lead this kind of life for 2 weeks, then 2 week turned into 4 weeks and then 8 and then 12 weeks. Guess what? I started liking my new lifestyle, as I was living effortless life, I was taking life as it comes, no routine to follow, no fix time of sleeping and waking up; I sleep as I feel sleepy (and I discovered I never feel sleepy) and I wake up as I feel waking up (and I found I never want to wake up).

Life was going good, I was feeling great, but deep within I was falling deep into a self made zone what we call “The Comfort Zone”, this zone is very deep & huge once you start falling you keep on falling as there is no base of it and it is very comfortable & warm as you don’t have to put much effort to do anything, everything goes on in very easy way, you don’t have to put strain in your body or mind, the only thing you have to do is relax and enjoy life rest everything takes care of by itself. But the flip side is once you get into this zone you get infected by a Bacteria which I call “The No Bacteria”. This bacteria is not alien to us, it passes from generation to generation through a very special gene which was acquired by human being from the process of evolution from the stone age when food was scarce specially during winters and we need to conserve our energy. So our body developed certain mechanism to avoid any kind of extra physical and mental activities.

The role of this bacteria is very simple whenever any rebellious voice comes out of your conscience which tries to take you out of this zone, which challenges the existence of “The Comfort Zone” it simply suggests you one single word “NO” and it come up with some excuse or keep you busy in some other things other than what you really wanted to do and make you feel that it is your own inner voice which is saying No, for example when your inner voice says lets go for jogging tomorrow early morning, I have put enough weight it’s time to shed it, then I put my alarm at 5.30 AM and when alarm rings it says NO, not today, let’s go tomorrow I slept late and need some more sleep or it’ll say today I have important work at office if I don’t sleep enough then I may doze off at office or it’ll will say I’m too tired today, or my body is aching, or it’s too cold or it’ll rain today etc. every time it comes up with an perfect excuse to say NO.

It’s been 12 weeks since I was living in my “The Comfort Zone”  never realized that I may get infected by “The No Bacteria”, three weeks ago I thought it’s summer I should join Swimming like I did last season for that I need to get “Fit to swim” certificate from a Doctor and  go to swimming pool and fill up the forms and pay the fee, it sounds pretty simple and indeed it is simple but every time I tried to go to doc to get certificate my mind said lets go tomorrow it’s pretty late today Doctor might have left, next day my mind said I’m too tired lets go tomorrow, and I keep making excuses.

Then two weeks days ago my office colleague pointed out hey your tummy is growing, I looked at it and I realized yes indeed, Then I realized it’s been 12 weeks since I left doing any physical exercise. I realized; how I have been trying to wake up early in morning but every time I keep postponing and now it almost seems impossible to wake up at 5 AM.

Then I realized OMG I have been infected by “The No Bacteria”. I got to do something and the only medicine to cure it is by saying “Yes” to everything that we try to avoid out of our discomfort that challenges the existence of “The Comfort Zone” and do not listen to any excuses our mind makes, it is tough at first depends on how long you have been poisoned by this bacteria sometimes it even looks impossible to get rid of it but with persistent effort you can cure yourself, and get yourself out of your comfort zone.

Kill the No Bacteria and Move out of your comfort zone. You can only grow if you are willing to feel awkward and uncomfortable when you try something new.

Remember “Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.”

Are Humans Designed To Eat Meat ?

I simply enjoy eating Chicken Curry, Rogan Josh (Mutton), Fish Curry, Sea Food. 5 Years back I turned into Vegetarian for nearly a year but when I went back home for Puja holidays my Mom got furious to know that I turned into Vegetarian she said “Son this is not the time for you to turn into vegetarian, when you get old then you can opt for it but not now” Then I again started enjoying meat and I still love them.

Today I came across a very interesting and important video about the facts of Meat and Human, it is about “Are Human Beings Designed to Eat Meat?”. Although I knew that we Humans are made for eating apples and banana by our mother nature as we do not have any canine teeth and we take 72 hours to digest meat meal but apart from missing canine and super slow digestion of meat I didn’t knew any of the other facts.

The prominent Swedish scientist Karl von Linne states, “Man’s structure, external and internal, compared with that of the other animals, shows that fruit and succulent vegetables constitute his natural food.”

The chart below compares the anatomy of man with that of carnivorous and herbivorous animals. When you look at the comparison between herbivores and humans, our body nature resembles much more closely to herbivores than meat eating animals. Humans are clearly not designed to digest and ingest meat.

  1. Claws
    • Meat-eaters: have claws
    • Herbivores: no claws
    • Humans: no claws
  2. Skin
    • Meat-eaters: have no skin pores and perspire through the tongue
    • Herbivores: perspire through skin pores
    • Humans: perspire through skin pores
  3. Teeth
    • Meat-eaters: have sharp front teeth for tearing, with no flat molar teeth for grinding
    • Herbivores: no sharp front teeth, but flat rear molars for grinding
    • Humans: no sharp front teeth, but flat rear molars for grinding
  4. Salivary Gland
    • Meat-eaters: salivary glands in mouth not needed to pre-digest grains and fruits.
    • Herbivores: well-developed salivary glands which are necessary to pre-digest grains and fruits
    • Humans: well-developed salivary glands, which are necessary to pre-digest, grains and fruits
  5. Saliva
    • Meat-eaters: have acid saliva with no enzyme ptyalin to pre-digest grains
    • Herbivores: have alkaline saliva with ptyalin to pre-digest grains
    • Humans: have alkaline saliva with ptyalin to pre-digest grains
  6. Digestive Juices
    • Meat-eaters: have strong hydrochloric acid in stomach to digest meat
    • Herbivores: have stomach acid that is 20 times weaker than that of a meat-eater
    • Humans: have stomach acid that is 20 times weaker than that of a meat-eater
  7. Intestine
    • Meat-eaters: have intestinal tract that is only 3 times their body length so that rapidly decaying meat can pass through quickly
    • Herbivores: have intestinal tract 10-12 times their body length.
    • Humans: have intestinal tract 10-12 times their body length.

Based on a chart by A.D. Andrews, Fit Food for Men, (Chicago: American Hygiene Society, 1970)

If you Watch following Video then there you find more distinguish traits that proves the point that we are designed for eating apples not chicken .

Power of Thank You

My Toastmaster Speech – Project 2

“Whoever Has will be given more, and he will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him.”

I know it sounds pretty unfair that whoever already has will be given more and who don’t will be taken from him, it’s like “Rich will get richer and the poor will get poorer” and this passage is from an ancient holy scripture. But there is a catch, a riddle to be solved , and when you know it a new world will opened up for you. And the catch or riddle is one single word “Gratitude”

Let me say it again – “Whoever has Gratitude will be given more, and he or she will have an abundance. Whoever does not have Gratitude, even what he or she has will be taken from.” Now does it makes sense, if you ask me? Yes! It does perfectly makes sense to me.

There is another passage from some other ancient Holy scripture : “And when God proclaimed: ‘if you are grateful I will give you more; but if you are ungrateful verily my punishment is indeed severe.”

If you keep digging every single Holy scripture then you’ll find Gratitude  all over some in cryptic form some in visible form. These all scriptures are actually telling us the fundamental law of science and law of the Universe.

Gratitude operates through a Universal law that governs our whole life. According to the law of attraction, which governs all the energy in our Universe, from the formation of an atom to the movement of the planets, “Like attracts like.”  It’s because of the law of attraction that the cell of every living creature are held together, as well as the substance of every material object. In our life , the law operates in our thoughts and feelings, because they are energy too, so whatever you think, whatever you feel, you attract to you.

If you think –

  • I don’t like my job.
  • I haven’t got enough money.
  • I’m not confident enough to speak to that girl.
  • She doesn’t appreciates me.
  • My life is mess
  • My child is trouble

By thinking or saying these you are only attracting more of these experiences.

But if you think –

  • I love my job, I completely enjoy it
  • My family is very supportive
  • I’m feeling great today
  • I’m confident enough to speak that girl
  • My child loves me
  • My life is great, I’m living a life that only 15% of world population can afford.

And if we sincerely feel the gratitude, the law of attraction says you must attract more of those things into our life.

Gratitude works in same way as metal being drawn to magnet; our gratitude is magnet, and the more gratitude we have, the more abundance we magnetize. It is universal law. We keeping hearing sayings like, “whatever goes around comes around,” “you reap what you sow,” and “you get what you give.” Well, all of those sayings are describing the same law of universe.

Let me share you my personal experience, last few years were very tough time for me, my life was filling with anger, hatred, guilt, resentment, well that happens when you put all your eggs in one basket and try for something which gives you false hope that it may change your whole life but at the end all you get is failures. You start hating yourself and persons around you, you start blaming them for your failures and more over everything goes around you makes you angry.

When it  starts happening to your life it’s time for heads up and lookout to solve it or else it’ll eat you up from within. I was feeling empty and discontented – I tried Jogging, daily I used to jog for an hour, Swim 75 laps a day, tried Yoga and Meditation but they helped very little. Then I came to know about “Gratitude” I found that I was focusing at half empty part of my life, I was comparing myself to more successful people than me and the definition of my success was completely wrong.

What gratitude taught me that, it is not the empty part of life I should focus on instead I must focus on the Half full part, I must focus on what I’m blessed with in my life and what I already has and when I did that I’ll felt really great and content.

I started practicing Gratitude and I started counting my blessings every day, every day I said to my self –

  • I’m truly blessed to have my parents, Because they are very supportive, provided  me good education, they are kind to me, they loves me a lot, they takes care of me, listen to me, stands by my side. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You.
  • I’m so grateful to have my elder brother, Because he is very supportive, understanding, honest, simple hearted, Kind, loves me, listen to me, stands by my side. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You.
  • I’m truly grateful for my friends, Because they understands me, very helpful in needful time, enjoys my company, accepts me and respects me as I’m, stands by my side. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You.
  • I’m truly blessed to have healthy body and healthy mind, I truly thankful to whole Universe and dear God for it, Because with healthy body and healthy mind I can enjoy my life and achieve anything that I desire. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You.

Then I started to pay gratitude to everything that I’m blessed with from clean air to water, from auto drive to bus driver, from  my maid to newspaper guy, from my fan to bathroom shower. I found that I have so many things, that everyone desires do you know that 80% of Indian population earns less than Rs.1600/- a month? And 80%of rest 20% earns less than 7000/- a month? We are living far-far better life than so many people in India and in world.

No matter who you are and what you are if you count your blessings and pay gratitude for them, you’ll feel happy and God will give you more happiness, universe will provide you more abundance. Now today before going to bed think for a moment what is the best thing that happened today? And say Thank you Thank you Thank  You, tomorrow morning when you wake up think 10 things that you are blessed with and every time you say thank you thank you thank you. Universe will bless you with more abundance.

Thank You Thank You Thank You

Time Is Ticking

Just thinking; Everyday we live our life like in an illusion that we have unlimited time. We never care how precious our time is and never realize that every second our clock is ticking, our time is exhausting. Daily we lead our life in grudges, jealousy, hatred, depression, solitary and loneliness. We value what other think about us over what we  believe in our self or matter of fact is that we never keep any faith in self and give so much importance to guy next to you that sometimes single utterance from his mouth may disturb you for the whole day. Why can’t we start valuing our life, our time (what is left) and truly start living? Is it so hard to do that?

I watched a movie lately – “In Time“; It is about in future time has become the ultimate currency. where people stop aging at 25, but there’s a catch: you’re genetically-engineered to live only one more year, unless you can buy your way out of it. The rich “earn” decades at a time (remaining at age 25), becoming essentially immortal, while the rest beg, borrow or steal enough hours to make it through the day. Protagonist of the movie fights against this injustice of imbalance like always, as rightly said by the Architect in “Matrix reloaded“ that Human being simply can not accept perfect world and we can never have perfect world.

The whole story line was pretty innovative I never thought that way before, but what liked  most was everyone’s clock was ticking and everyone were aware that how much time is left, now they can either work extra to earn more time or steal it or you can live your life like last day on earth. Imagine that somehow you can come to know that you have got certain amount of time is left; then what you would do?

Whenever I reunion with my old friends like in their marriages (One fact here : Almost all People I know are either getting married or pregnant, I’m simply getting more Awesome) I ask them one simple question; what you would do if you come to know that 2012 is really the last year of Planet Earth? and to my surprise everyone of them simply just can not give more than 3-5 wishes to do before earth gonna end. May be we have taken our life so much granted that we firmly believe it’ll never going to end.

But Who knows…Cause the fact is our “Time is Ticking……” We better start living our life.. instead of wasting it.

Learning Life’s Lessons

I’m learning very important life’s lesson from past few months, Today I thought of sharing it with all my friends (Special thanks to Ishita Gupta)

  • Time is an illusion.
  • Don’t measure it by the amount of hours/effort you put in, measure it by goals you accomplish.
  • A lofty goal combined with serious effort gets results.
  • Doing things quickly and repetitively helps you get over anxiety about failure.
  • Making a decision is more important than doing things perfectly.
  • When in the dip (the tedious execution phase), remember the larger goal of your project and the value it provides to the world.
  • You don’t have to do everything alone.
  • Good things await when you take a risk (a smart one), no matter how afraid you are.
  • If you win, you win. If you lose, you win. (From Rocky and stepping out of your comfort zone.)
  • When you think you’ve reached your limit, do more.
  • You just might waste your life away in idleness and bullshit if you’re not careful.
  • Taking initiative matters.
  • Being who you want to be and who you think you really are is largely a decision
  • Flexibility is your biggest asset.
  • You don’t have to do things like everyone else.
  • Focus on what matters. Few things matter, but those that do need maniacal focus.
  • Getting rejected is OK. In fact, if you do it quick enough, rejection speeds up your road to success. (Similarly, rejection doesn’t matter until you stop trying. Once you stop trying, getting rejected becomes a big deal.)
  • Taking care of the things (and people) you love in your life matters everyday, no matter how busy you are.
  • Learn the language of the people you wish to speak to and communicate with (French or analytics.)
  • Don’t stay busy. Get real things done that matter (ignore what looks like your job and focus on what really is your job.)

My Maiden Bungee Jumping From 160 M – World’s 3rd Highest Point at Nepal

Date : 11th Oct 2011
Location : The Last Resort, Nepal (3 Hours From Kathmandu).
Booking Office : The Last Resort, Thamel, Kathmandu
Website: http://www.thelastresort.com.np

First Bungee Experience
When I went to Bridge for the jump I felt little fear just like when I look down from the roof of the building, There were around 40 people which were divided into 3 groups according to their weight G1 (70 Kg-100KG), G2 (63 Kg – 69 KG), G3 (40 Kg – 62 KG); I was in G1 which was marked with marker on my right hand. After sometime my temperature went up by 5 degree I don’t know why but I was feeling like going for my first campus interview. when I watched 4-5 jumps and swings I started to cool down and got acclimatize with height.

Jump started with heaviest to lightest weight order, my turn was 3rd last and my elder bro has last turn with 70 KG. When it was my turn I tried to stay focused and composed, I made a small plan on how I will jump like I’ll keep my hands in flying position and rest body straight, won’t bend, I’ll give a push by legs while jump which will help me to give a better Free Fall experience just like as instructor said an hour ago but when I get there on jump platform my mind went blank, has almost zero thought and no fear, all I heard was 1..2…3.. Jump.. and I jumped… very next moment my mind went completely blank like in a state of enlightenment absolutely No thoughts..those feelings were indescribable which you can experience only when you go through it, it’s like I fully lived those moments and felt those every second of free fall.. Once the rope bounced back I came back to my normal state and started shouting woooooohoooooo……

Why I Hate My Blackberry?

Recently I got Blackberry as a gift, but after using I started hating it, My friends asked me why so? Here I’m listing my primary hate reasons -

  1. Connection – Frequently looses connection I have Airtel connection but it switches it’s network to Vodafone and shows no network, after running 5-6 diagnostic test it switch back to Airtel network. I thought something is wrong with my phone set but same is the story with our other BB phone.
  2. SMS – Ever since I started using it i.e. yesterday it frequently route my SMS to international gateway which costs me Rs.5/SMS for local SMS even after having unlimited Monthly SMS package I complained about this to Airtel customer care but they are too dumb to acknowledge it as problem.
  3. Ringtone – It frequently switch to silent mode with no ringtones and alert tone I missed many important calls and even after wasting 1 hour to fix it won’t fix up but after sometime it get fix it by itself.
  4. Cumbersome – There are too many settings and options for dumb guy like me to get a hold of it, it took me more than 3 days to understand & customize the basic functionalities to use my phone normally. Unlike Android and iPhone which took me 10 minutes to understand and ready to rock & roll.
  5. BIS (Blackberry Internet Service) – It’s doubling my mobile bills and without it I can’t even surf net with Airtel Live as I used to do it before in my Samsung Phone as my Mobile internet requirement is not that great that I’m going to double my mobile bill.
  6. Just Can’t Switch it off – There is no button for switching it off completely, they have Full Power off but When I hit hang/power button it instantly illuminates the phone. I was travelling & wanted to save the batteries by switching it off when I checked back to call I found whole batteries was drained off as somehow it started off automatically cause it just take a simple touch on hang/power button to start unlike other phone which takes continuous pressing of power button to start. I wasted 2 hours to figure out how to switch off completely later found it can only done by taking off the batteries.
  7. No Apps – I cannot access apps like gmail apps or other essential life saving apps till I subscribe to BIS, I can surf net via Wi-fi but I just cannot use apps what the hack is wrong with them.
  8. There are other issues as well and these are very simple issues but making my life hell after started using blackberry as it is consuming too much time in regularly fixing things like network and ringtone issues also reducing my productivity greatly. Now I wish I have never got this phone.  Somehow my 1st impression not so good with BB :( I hope it may change with time.

Sharon Gayter – My New Running Inspiration :)

This 15th August (Independence day) morning when I was listening/watching patriotic songs in youtube in my friend’s home (as his TV was short circuited recently) I picked up the Telegraph newspaper and read about Sharon Gayter, my jaws dropped when I read that she won 222km ultra-marathon at altitude exceeding 14,000ft, where oxygen is low and that too when she is an asthmatic and 47 years old whose regular inhaler wouldn’t work at those height heights because of the pressure difference and not only she won but competing against the world’s best, she made it home in 37 hours and 34 minutes that is like running non-stop 5.8 Km per hour.

Last time when I got inspired was by Runner Keith Golke of Minneapolis who resembled as an icicle while jogging on the coldest day, he was fully covered with ice still it didn’t stopped him from going for his daily jog.

Two Wolves

I just came across one of the best explanation of life while going through Facebook notes of my friend I’m not sure of it’s original source but it is really amazing -

Life explained, in short!!

Two Wolves – Good & Evil

One evening an old Man told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people.

He said, “My son, the battle is between two wolves inside us all.

“One is Evil – It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.

“The other is Good – It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith.”

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, ”Which wolf wins?”
The old Man simply replied, ”The one you feed.”
